Carlton Appoints New Chief Executive

Carlton Communications has appointed Steven Cain managing director of the Carlton group. Cain will replace June de Moller (see Newsline) in the new year and will work alongside chairman Michael Green.

Cain is currently marketing director on the board of Asda Group, and has been with the group for the past six years. Despite the fact that Cain apparently has no experience of the media sector, Carlton believes the retail sector has produced some of Britain’s best managers, and was keen to capitalise on this.

Cain was enthusiastic about his new role: “Carlton is a rapidly expanding industry. I am excited at the challenge of keeping Carlton at the forefront of developments and making the most of its undoubted potential. This is a huge job and I am greatly looking forward to it.”

Earlier this week, Carlton announced that its talks concerning a takeover bid with the Arsenal Football Club had come to a close (see Newsline).
