The books division of Carlton Communications has acquired Andre Deutsch Limited, one of the UK’s leading sports and media publishers, for an undisclosed sum. The deal will bring Carlton the publishing contracts for both Granada Media and Manchester United Football Club.
Nigel Walmsley, chairman of Carlton Media, said: “Carlton is developing a fully integrated media strategy that combines content with distribution. We are acquiring and creating content for distribution on free and pay TV, through books, videos, DVDs and the internet. Combining Andre Deutsch Limited and Carlton Books will create the UK’s leading publisher of football and ITV-related titles”.
Carlton Books currently represents Carlton TV’s publishing interests and is the number one sports reference book publisher in the UK, with titles such as the ITV Formula One Grand Prix Yearbook. Two-thirds of the company’s revenues come from overseas publishing sales.
