Carlton Communications Waiting For Premier League Rights
Carlton Communications, in response to the writ which is being issued against it by BSkyB (see today’s BSkyB Confirms June Launch For Digital item), has said that it has not paid the satellite broadcaster the amount owed because BSkyB has not yet secured the Premier League football rights for the British Digital Broadcasting consortium.
A Carlton spokesman told Newsline: “Carlton has not paid BSkyB the full amount owed because they have made virtually no progress in acquiring the Premier League rights for digital terrestrial television. This is something they have repeatedly said they will do but so far their actions have proved otherwise.”
BSkyB is currently in negotiations with the Premier League, though its first offer for TV rights was turned down (subscribers see Premier League Rejects BSkyB Digital Proposal).
