Carlton Communications is reported to be about to sign a $1 billion deal for New Line Cinema, the sixth biggest film studio in Hollywood.
Carlton and the French media group Havas are looking to buy New Line from Time Warner. The studio is famous for hits like the Mask, Dumb and Dumber and Seven.
If the deal goes ahead Carlton will weald a great deal of power in Hollywood and become Britain’s leading film producer.
