Carlton Poaches beeb.com Head To Drive Interactive Media

Carlton Communications has poached Rupert Miles, currently director of beeb.com, the BBC’s commercial online enterprise, to become the group’s managing director of interactive media. Miles will be responsible for building all of Carlton’s online interests, including the development of Carlton Online, which so far has produced the simplyfood.co.uk, popcorn.co.uk and jamba.co.uk websites.
Miles has spent the last three years setting up beeb.com, during which time the site has become one of the five most visited entertainment websites in the UK, with almost nine million page impressions a month. Commenting on his move to Carlton, Miles says: “Carlton has fantastic potential in the online, interactive world. With the mass audience delivery of Carlton Television, the interactive potential of ONdigital and the fulfilment capabilities of Technicolor, Carlton can become a major player.”
At the same time Carlton has confirmed that acting Carlton Online MD, Philip Rooke, will take on the position on a permanent basis. Rooke replaced Carol Dukes who left Carlton in July to set up her own internet business (see Carlton Online MD Departs To Start Internet Group).
