Carlton Sales Takes Over Scottish And Grampian Contracts

Carlton Sales has won the airtime sales contract for Scottish TV and Grampian. Advertising for the two licences, which are owned by Scottish Media Group, was previously sold through TSMS, the sales house of United News & Media.

The two ITV licences broadcast to 4.5m people and accounted for 6.1% of ITV’s net advertising revenue during 1999. By combining the Scottish licences with its existing portfolio, which covers London, the Midlands, the West Country and, with its recent addition of HTV (see Granada Media Consolidates Ownership Of Meridian And Sells HTV To Carlton), the West of England and Wales, Carlton will be responsible for 46% of ITV’s net advertising revenue. Its regions will sell to 31m people, 54% of all adults and 56% of all ABC1s.

Steve Platt, managing director of Carlton Sales, said: “Adding the Scottish stations to the Carlton stable gives us a stronger sell with a wider reach. We now sell from Land’s End to John O’Groats and cover the three capital cities of London, Edinburgh and Cardiff. HTV and the Scottish stations together bring another 9 million into the Carlton sell.”
