Carolyn Fairbairn, director of corporate development and strategy at ITV, is to make the keynote opening address at this year’s European Television Symposium in Lisbon.
Fairbairn, a former director of strategy at the BBC, was previously a member of the BBC’s executive board and was responsible for the development of the corporation’s digital strategy.
Named chairman of digital satellite TV service Freesat in August this year (see Carolyn Fairbairn Appointed New Freesat Chairman), Fairbairn led the development of Freeview in 2002.
In her keynote speech, Fairbairn will address delegates on the opportunities presented to broadcasters by developing technologies.
The television symposium, running from November 6-7, will focus on several areas, and includes a presentation from NBC Universal’s president of research and media development, Alan Wurtzel, on cross-platform TV viewing.
Also speaking at the TV conference are Julian Dobinson, head of research at BSkyB, and David Brennan, research and strategy director at Thinkbox.
