Robert Maxwell is considering taking a 40% stake in the Budapest evening newspaper Esti Hirlap. If the aquisit- ion goes ahead Maxwell will become publisher of the paper and its journalists will be given a stake. An investment package to remodernise the paper is also included in the deal.
Four European newspapers are to launch a display advertising package next January. The European Quality Newspaper package will offer a reduction for advertisers who take space on each of the titles. The papers involved are the Independent (UK), Le Monde (France), Suddeutsche Zeitung (Germany) and Corriere della Sera (Italy).
