The Daily Mail and General Trust, the publishers of the Daily Mail and the Mail on Sunday, announced annual pre-tax profits of £66.7m, up 74% on the previous year’s restated figure.The Daily Mail achieved a 15% increase in advertising revenue.Northcliffe Newspapers, the regional publishing group recorded a modest increase in trading profit.

Southern Radio, which provides local radio services to Hampshire, Kent and Sussex, increased pre-tax profits by 24% to £0.96m for the year to September 30.These results are the first to reflect a full 12 month period for the group since the merger of Southern with Invicta Radio in December 1991.
The Retail Price Index for November 1993 has been announced this morning. Inflation remains unchanged at 1.4% The rate has now been below 2% for 12 months; this is the lowest run since 1960.The actual figure taking 1985 as the base rate is 149.67. This represents a decrease of 0.1% on October 1993.
