CBS Sues Granada Over I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here

American broadcaster CBS is suing Granada, claiming its popular I’m a Celebrity – Get Me Out Of Here show is a rip off of its Survivor programme.

A copyright infringement suit has been filed in New York alleging that I’m a Celebrity – Get Me Out Of Here “directly copies the format, look and feel of Survivor.” Granada have strongly denied the claim.

Granada had sold the format of the show to the US ABC network and were clearly hoping that the show, as a piece of intellectual property, could be as lucrative as the Big Brother format has been for Endemol.

CBS will also be suing ABC, which is due to screen 15 episodes of the US version of I’m a Celebrity later this month.

A potentially expensive and drawn-out court battle would represent another blow to Granada’s beleaguered shareholders, who have seen the stock plummet in recent months.
