CCA To Restructure In The Light Of Cable Industry Consolidation

The Cable Communications Association (CCA) has said that it is to restructure its role following a high degree of consolidation of companies in the cable industry.

As a result of this the Association’s chief executive, Bob Frost, has left the CCA. The reorganisation meant the chief executive’s post was ‘no longer deemed necessary’, according to a CCA spokesperson.

Consolidation in the cable industry has seen the number of cable companies halve in the last three years. Telewest recently bought General Cable to become the largest multiple service operator (MSO) according to ITC data (see Telewest Buys General Cable For £649m). Prior to this NTL bought Comcast (see NTL Buys Comcast UK For £363m). There are now only really five major players according to ITC figures.

The result of this consolidation is that the newly-formed, larger companies can perform Government lobbying and other such public affairs themselves without assistance from the CCA. In line with this the CCA is restructuring into three areas of focus: regulatory, public affairs and education.

Trevor Smale, director of legal and regulatory affairs, will run daily operations at the CCA.
