Liverpool FC’s entry in to the quarter finals of the Champions League last night drew an average adult audience of more than 5.8 million to ITV1, giving the broadcaster a 27% viewing share for a large chunk of primetime.
BBC One’s Life On Mars, on during the last hour of the football coverage, lost around one million viewers from its previous episodes this series (see Life On Mars Battles Champion’s League Brawl), taking a 20.5% share between 9pm and 10pm.
Almost 4.6 million adults on average tuned it to see DI Sam Tyler (John Simm) struggling with terrorist bomb blasts and his 1970s alternate reality.
Over on Channel 4, Never Did Me Any Harm, which sees four modern families turning back the clock so the children can live as their parents did, maintained its audience of around two million adults (9%).
Meanwhile, on Five, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation boosted the channel with an average adult audience of around 2.6 million, giving the broadcaster’s flagship an 11.7% share between 9pm and 10pm.
Hospital drama series, Holby City, on BBC One, fared rather better against the match, netting almost 5.5 million adult viewers, or a 25% viewing share between 8pm and 9pm.
Eastenders also performed well for One, with the bizarre, twisted affairs of Albert Square luring 8.2 million to the channel, giving it a 40.5% share during the game’s preamble.
