Channel 4 Achieves Highest Ever Weekly Share

Monday night’s episode of Eastenders has for only the third time out-performed the Tuesday and Thursday editions. The episode, which featured the return of Sam Butcher to Albert Square after ending up in bed with David Wicks, attracted 12.60 million viewers.

Channel 4 has achieved its highest ever share of viewing with 13%; programmes such as Stephen King’s Tommy Knockers (which had over 4.6 million viewers for its Tuesday and Wednesday episodes) helped beat its previous best of 12.5% from the week ending 19/03/95.

Television viewing for the week as a whole has fallen by 6.3% when compared to the same week last year. Channel 4 is the only terrestrial channel to improve on last year’s figures, gaining an extra 5 minutes which is a percentage increase of 3.1. The top programme for the week was watched by 11% less people when compared to last year’s top programme (Coronation Street in bothcases.)
