Channel 4 Extends News Contract With ITN

ITN is to continue to supply news to Channel 4 until the end of 2003. The broadcaster has exercised its option to extend its current contract, which began in 1999, for a further two and a half year period.

ITN chief executive, Stewart Purvis, said: “ITN has produced Channel 4 News since the channel’s launch in 1982. This extension means that ITN’s long-standing relationship with Channel 4 is set to continue. While we expand the company’s activities across digital and new media platforms our terrestrial television contracts remain at the core of our business.”

Last year a Sunday edition of Channel 4 News was introduced and the programme saw its audience increase by 15% overall.
