Channel 4 News Revamp Details
Channel 4 and ITN today revealed details of the new look Channel 4 News, set for launch next year. Starting from 4 January, the programme will have a new look, a new set and, for the first time, an extended Saturday edition. The new set will feature a video wall and there will be more space for conducting interviews and discussions.
Jon Snow will be the main anchor for the weekly programme and will be backed by Krishnan Guru-Murthy and Kirsty Lang. The new Saturday edition will begin broadcasting from 6.30 to 7.00 pm on Saturday 9 January and will have the same value as the weekday programme. Jon Snow will be the presenter at the launch of the programme, with new additional faces joining throughout the year.
The changes come at a time when there is a widespread reassessment of the way news is delivered on the terrestrial channels. The BBC is currently in the process of revamping its Six O’Clock News, with a decision expected to be announced by the BBC Governors anytime after 10 December.
ITV has won its battle to scrap News at Ten and is replacing the long-running news programme early next year with two bulletins at 6.30pm and 11pm (see ITC Agrees To News At Ten Move).
