Channel 4 To Develop Daytime Strategy

Channel 4 has created two new commissioning appointments to help develop a new strategy for the daytime schedule. Fiona Chesterton, the channel’s deputy commissioning editor for News and Current Affairs since 1992, is to be C4’s first commissioning editor for daytime, and her deputy is to be Julia Foote LeStage, who joins from Thames Television.
C4 says that though it has established and successful daytime strands, it recognises the need to compete more effectively and distinctively across the whole of daytime. This involves a new strategy and substantial investment in new commissions to reduce a reliance on old movies and purchased talk shows.
Karen Brown, controller of factual programmes, commented: “Our challenge is to develop a schedule of home-grown programming that not only attracts more viewers but demonstrates the innovation and distinction that are at the heart of the channel’s remit.”
C4 has also announced that John Willis has signed a new contract as C4’s Director of Programmes for a further five years.
