Channel 4 To Keep RI:SE Despite Drop In Ratings

Channel 4 has denied speculation that it is to axe its breakfast show RI:SE, despite ratings figures sinking to just above the crucial 100,000 mark.
A spokesperson for Channel 4 told NewsLine: “We had one poor day [when ratings hovered around 100,000], but generally the ratings are around 200,000 to 300,000, which is where we were with The Big Breakfast, so we have no plans to scrap the show.”
If the programme’s ratings drop below 100,000 it will receive a zero ratings classification from BARB. This would bring further embarrassment to RI:SE, which was reportedly beaten in the ratings by Channel Five’s Noddy.
RI:SE has had a turbulent time since its launch last April (see RI:SE Launch Date Revealed), and it recently underwent a re-vamp in an attempt to attract viewers (see RI:SE Gets New Presenter As Part Of Revamp).
The new look RI:SE returned to the screens this month, after being off air over the Christmas period. It is now presented by former 11 O’Clock Show host Iain Lee and Edith Bowman, the only remaining face from the original RI:SE line-up.
It was hoped the new look and the new London location would attract celebrity guests and the large breakfast audience that Channel 4 enjoyed during The Big Breakfast’s hey day.
