Channel 4 has released details of its new spring/summer season, which is set to include animal autopsies, obese children and the Alpha Course.
Windfall Films has been commissioned by the broadcaster to produce four 60-minute episodes that will open up an elephant, a giraffe, a whale and a crocodile to explore their insides, following the popularity of Channel 4’s first ever human autopsy on TV.
The new animal autopsy programme, which has been produced in association with the Royal Veterinary College, aims to take a look at the evolution of animal’s bodies in relation to their habitat.
C4’s ‘State of the Nation’ initiative sees it launch a Generation XXL series, which will follow seven obese children over the next decade, in a similar format to Seven-Up.
The Family and controversial Boys & Girls Alone series were commissioned under the same initiative, which is also set to take in North One’s The Hospital and Studio Lambert’s The Benefit Business this year.
A Cutting Edge film, Red Lion, from My Street director Sue Bourne also features on the new line-up – examining Britain’s reputation as a nation of drinkers.
C4 has developed a new religion strand as well, which is due to overseen by Aaqil Ahmed, and will succeed the Witness brand.
The spring/summer season, which launched yesterday, will also include new shows fronted by Alan Carr, Charlie Brooker, Sarah Beeny, Kirstie Allsop, Gorden Ramsay, Anna Richardson and Rupert Everett.
