Channel 4’s Entertainment Channel Secures NTL Carriage

Channel 4’s entertainment channel E4 has received a boost in the form of its first carriage deal. The channel, which is currently under development, is now set to be carried on NTL’s networks.

The channel, one of several new projects announced by Channel 4 during their annual report this year (see Channel 4 Doesn’t Rule Out Subsidiary Flotation) has had a launch date of January 2001 confirmed.

It is hoped that carriage deals for all digital platforms will be reached by the launch date, although a deal with BSkyB is thought to be in difficulties. Last month neither BSkyB or Channel 4 would confirm rumours that talks of a possible equity partnership had broken down (see E4 Equity Partner Discussions With BSkyB Flounder).
