Channel 5 Appoints New Marketing Director

Channel 5 has announced the appointment of its new director of marketing and communications. David Pullan will join from MTV Networks, UK & Ireland, where he was vice president of marketing and digital channels, in the New Year.

Pullan steps into the shoes of Hytner, who left to become marketing and commercial director at ITV earlier this year (see Hytner Quits 5 For ITV). During his time at Channel 5, Sky veteran Hytner, along with chief executive Dawn Airey, was instrumental in raising both the profile and the audience share of the often derided commercial channel.

Commenting on his appointment, Pullan said: “The [Channel 5] brand has an amazing track record in its short history, and a very bright future. This is a period of transition for Channel 5, and a great time to get involved in driving the business forward.”

Pullan’s responsibilities in his new job will include managing the channel’s consumer and trade marketing; press and PR; on-air promotions; strategic planning and duty office.

According to BARB, Channel 5’s average audience share during October this year was 6.2%, compared to 6% in October 2000 and 5.9% in October 1999.
