The Independent Television Commission has today confirmed it will announce its decision on the fifth national television channel, Channel 5, tomorrow. Following their monthly meeting last week no decision was forthcoming, but an extra meeting was held yesterday at which the decision was finalised.
The highest bidder, UKTV, remains favourite, despite worries over high levels of foreign ownership and doubts over the sale of one of its shareholders, SelecTV. It is believed that all four bidders passed the basic quality thresholds, and in such circumstances, cash bids are decisive.
