Channel 5 May Swap Airtime For New Media Equity

Channel 5 is currently holding discussions with a number of new media companies and may offer free C5 airtime advertising in exchange for equity stakes. Any such deal would allow the new media companies, most of which do not have a TV advertising budget, to promote their services nationally through Channel 5.

The venture is being overseen by Channel 5’s head of new business, James Burgon, who said: “As part of the new initiative, we are in talks with several new media companies, although no deal has yet been announced. Burgon told Newsline that he is currently restricted by the non-disclosure contractual discussions and that an announcement would be made at a later date.

Earlier this week Channel 5 unveiled its autumn programme schedule and director of programmes Dawn Airey promised that the season would give the station its strongest viewing figures yet (see Channel 5 Stays With Controversial Programming For New Schedule).
