Channel 5 has announced that it is to move its main evening news bulletin to 6pm, after receiving approval from the Independent Television Commission (ITC).
The weekday 5 News, presented by Kirsty Young, will be brought forward from its current spot at 7pm on 15 March, and the channel’s hourly updates will also be expanded and enhanced.
Dawn Airey, 5 director of programmes, commented: “The move of News At Ten [see Newsline] and the relaunch of the Channel 4 News [see Newsline] have made all broadcasters examine the scheduling of their news.”
ITV is to bring into effect its new schedule on 8 March, involving the scrapping of its News At Ten bulletin, which will be replaced by an early evening and late night bulletin instead.
