Channel 5 Poaches Execs From 4

Channel 5 has poached three senior programming executives from Channel 4. Andrew Newman, Dan Chambers and Sue Murphy have been all appointed programming controllers at Channel 5.
Andrew Newman, currently head of programmes at E4 is to become Channel 5’s new controller of entertainment. As head of programmes at E4, Newman was responsible for shows such as Banzai and Big Brother’s Little Brother and as editor of entertainment at Channel 4 he commissioned the likes of Da Ali G Show, The 11 O’clock Show and TFI Friday.
Dan Chambers has been science editor at Channel 4 since 1999 and as well as being jointly responsible for the first series of Big Brother has commissioned series such as Scrapheap Challenge and Cannibal.
Since July of last year Sue Murphy has been commissioning editor of factual entertainment at Channel 4 and has brought the Top Ten and 100 Greatest Franchises to Saturday evenings.
Channel 5’s director of programmes, Kevin Lygo, said: “These are three very exciting appointments for Channel 5. All three executives have track records in producing innovative and popular programming which will mean interesting times ahead for the genres they’ll be looking after and developing.”
All three used to work with Channel 5’s director of programmes, Kevin Lygo, who left Channel 4 last month.
