Channel 5 Signs Biggest Net Sponsorship Deal

The biggest sponsorship deal between a British broadcaster and an internet company took place yesterday when Channel 5 signed a £3 million deal with ShopSmart.com. The one-year contract will see the Net shopping portal sponsoring the channel’s peak-time film output.

ShopSmart.com plans to create a number of executions to suit each different genre of film. Managing director and founder of the retail portal, Daniel Gestetner, said: “Maintaining a consistent presence in the homes of the nation is an exciting prospect for any business, but this deal marks a real first for the UK’s e-commerce community.”

Director of sales at Channel 5, Nick Mulligan says: “It is very significant moving into the millennium that an internet company should secure our best ever line-up of movies.”
