Channel 5 Unveils Revamped News Programme

Channel 5 news is to under-go a re-vamp as part of the transformation of the channel’s branding this autumn.
From next Monday the news will carry the new name “five news” and a re-branded ident designed to bring it up to date with the channel’s new look.
Chris Shaw, senior programme controller of news and current affairs at Channel 5, said: “Five news has always been branded in complete harmony with the channel, and with 10 transmissions per day it remains one of the most salient speeches in our schedule.”
The news has been a jewel in the Channel 5’s crown with its informal style and news anchor, Kirsty Young, who re-joined the channel in January after briefly defecting to ITV. The programme’s innovative style and delivery is thought to have sparked a shake up at the BBC, which recently drafted in a range of younger presenters for its nightly news bulletin. It is also understood to have prompted the shake up of Channel 4 news under Michael Jackson.
