Channel 5 Would Be First For The Chop, Says Survey

According to a new Informer survey by Universal Truths, Channel 5 is the first channel that viewers would give up if one of their channels had to go. The Omnibus survey of 1000 adults showed that 43% of those who could receive the channel said it would be the first to go.
This compares with 20% who said BBC2 would be ditched first, 14% for Channel 4 and only 7% would have ITV as their first choice of channel to lose. BBC1 proved the most popular overall, with only 5% of adults saying they would give it up first.
Perhaps unexpectedly, Channel 5 proved most popular with those at the extreme age groups. When asked whether they agreed with the statement ‘Channel 5 is a channel for me’, the highest proportion of adults agreeing were in the 15-24 age group (27%) and those aged 65+ (26%).
The channel’s free football coverage is popular amongst all groups, particularly the 15-24s. Overall, the fact that the soccer coverage was free was perceived as ‘a good thing’.
Channel 5 is seen to have widened choice although a lot of its content is considered of poor quality. The channel’s lack of heritage causes it to be held in lower esteem than the other established terrestrial stations.
