Charlotte Moore appointed as new BBC One controller

Director of BBC Television Danny Cohen has today announced that Charlotte Moore is to take up the position of Controller of BBC One – described as a ‘critical appointment’ by director general Tony Hall.

“I was really excited by Charlotte’s ideas and vision, they have a boldness and originality that is absolutely what the channel should offer,” said Hall.

Currently acting controller of the corporation, Moore has been running the channel since May and spent the first part of the year as the acting controller of BBC Daytime Television.

“Charlotte has proven herself as a highly talented creative leader, with fantastic credentials as a commissioner and a reputation as a thoughtful and collaborative colleague,” said Cohen.

“She has a passion for storytelling and a real understanding of audiences and BBC One’s commitment to scale, range and risk-taking. I am looking forward to her joining my new senior management team on a permanent basis and leading the channel to great future success.”

On her appointment, Moore said that she is honoured to be taking over one of the most ‘exciting’ and ‘creative’ job in the industry.

“BBC One has a unique role to play in this country and I’m looking forward to working with many talented people. I’m incredibly excited by Danny’s vision for BBC Television and what the future holds in the digital age,” she said.

Moore joined the BBC in 2006 as commissioning executive for documentaries – moving on to commissioning editor in 2009, where she was responsible for strategy and commissioning for in-house and independents across all four channels.

Moore starts her new role with immediate effect with a total salary of £240,000.
