Cheltenham Newspapers Radio Interest

The Cheltenham Newspapers group, owner of the Gloucestershire Echo and Gloucester Citizen is taking a major interest in local radio. It is a 20% investor in BIG AM and FM, the proposed stations of Broadcasting in Gloucestershire, one of the consortia which hopes to take the IR licence which has been readvertised in Gloucester.
Oxford station Fox FM has 60% of BIG and Lord Kershaw is chairman. The licences for Gloucester AM and FM were advertised on May 7th and are expected to be announced at the beginning of October.
The other applicant for the licence besides the current holder, Severn Sound, is Severn Vale Radio. The major investor for Severn Vale is Enterprise Radio, owned by Eastern Counties Newspapers.
