Chris Evans Increases Sky One Breakfast Viewing
The novel idea of taking a radio show to television appears to be paying off for Chris Evans and Sky One, according to unofficial overnight viewing figures.
Virgin Radio, owned by Evans’ Ginger Media Group, struck a deal with Sky earlier this year to broadcast one hour of the breakfast show on Sky One (see Chris Evans Takes Virgin Radio Show To Sky One). The first show went out this Monday between 7:30 and 8:30am. The TV coverage only broadcasts what goes out on the radio, but Evans and his team are shown preparing material in between live links. A few videos are also shown throughout the hour.
Not the most exciting visual format, perhaps, but it has boosted Sky One’s breakfast viewing figures, initially at least. This Monday, the first broadcast of the show, Sky One gained an average audience of 400,000 viewers across the hour, according to unofficial overnights. After the programme finished, viewing dropped back down to around 200,000.
On Monday 21 September, BARB figures show that the channel achieved an average viewing figure of around 150,000 for the same period in the morning.
The TV show has signed a sponsorship deal with Marmite, and the radio breakfast show itself is sponsored by Sky.
