Christian Channel Fined £20,000 By ITC
The Independent Television Commission (ITC) has imposed a £20,000 fine on the Christian Channel, which broadcasts to the UK via cable and satellite. The channel faces the penalty for a number of breaches of the Advertising Code in relation to political impartiality and denigration of other beliefs, as well as a number of further infringements of the Commission’s rules.
The breaches all occurred during an advertisement for a religious rally in London featuring American evangelist Morris Cerullo. The rally was advertised under the banner ‘Christian Warfare’ and connected social problems with a lack of Christian standards in society. The ITC ruled that the ad must not be shown again.
The Christian Channel has received warnings from the ITC for breaches to the Programme Code on a number of other occasions.
