Chrysalis has secured a deal to launch its Galaxy radio service on Switch Digital’s DAB multiplexes across London and central Scotland.
The agreement begins this month and extends the Galaxy brand in the UK, increasing its combined analogue/DAB digital reach to almost 28 million potential listeners.
The group has also secured a deal to carry its digital rock format, The Arrow, on the central Scotland multiplex, in a move that will increase its potential reach to over 28.5 million listeners.
Commenting on the deals, Phil Riley, Chrysalis Radio’s chief executive, said: “These latest agreements further demonstrate our commitment both to Galaxy and DAB digital radio. We’re delighted Londoners, and people living in Scotland’s central belt, will now be able to enjoy listening to the UK’s largest youth brand, as sales of digital sets take off in 2003.”
Last month the Digital Radio Development Bureau announced the launch of what it claims to be the world’s first truly portable DAB digital radio. The radio, which has been developed and manufactured by Perstel UK, is smaller and lighter than a pack of cards and features a menu system that allows users to switch between DAB and FM signals (see World’s First Portable Digital Radio Unveiled).
