Cinema On The Rise As Snatch Pushes September Admissions
Cinema admissions during September totalled 9.4m, an increase of 7.5% compared to last year (see Cinema Admissions Fall During September), according to the latest figures from Carlton Screen Advertising. Box office visits averaged 2.19m per week as strong offerings including Snatch, Scary Movie and X-Men pushed admissions.
Snatch was the most successful film of the month, taking £10.8m, while Scary Movie made £8.3m. The third quarter showed a slight dip in a yearly analysis due to the release of Star Wars: Episode One last year, but was up 14% compared to the second quarter.
Carlton expects a dip in admissions during October and November but a strong line-up of family movies during December, including The Grinch and 102 Dalmatians, are expected to bring this years’ total admissions to around 142m, comfortably exceeding last year’s levels.
