Cinemas Have Best Weekend In Box-Office History

British cinemas are celebrating their most successful weekend ever, after several top-class films drew mass audiences. A combination of films, catering for a variety of tastes, meant that takings were more than £7.24 million for this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, according to press reports. Top films out now include the new Brad Pitt thriller, Seven, Something to Talk About with Julia Roberts, Goldeneye, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls and Babe.

The large amount of popular films means that the weekend took around £500,000 more than the previous weekend record in July 1993, when Jurassic Park boosted takings to £6.65 million.
