Classic FM Campaign To Change Radio Rules

Classic FM, whose licence runs out in the year 2000, has launched a campaign to change the way radio licences are awarded. The station wants the government to put the renewal of national commercial radio licences on an equal footing with the ITV franchises; ITV companies can renegotiate their annual payments to the Treasury with the ITC, and do not have to face further sealed bid auctions. The Radio Authority has also appealed, to the Department of National Heritage, for it to scrap sealed bids.
