Classic FM Warned Over Excessive In-House Promotion

The Radio Authority has published its Programming & Advertising Review for the final quarter of 2000. A total 124 written complaints regarding commercial radio were received during this time.

Classic FM was the subject of two complaints in regard to the promotion of its in-house label CD, Relax More, which the complainants found “excessive”. The Authority agreed that the station had gone beyond acceptable codes of promotion, citing in particular the connection with Classic FM’s Relax theme, used to describe its output.

Stations were also warned to take care when scheduling adverts for films or publications containing adult material following a series of complaints.

For the current quarter two yellow cards have already been issued. The first was sent to Liberty Radio, the London-based women’s station, over religious content. Early morning broadcasts were found to give “undue prominence” to the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God, which owns the station.
