Classic Lose Controller
Michael Bukht is standing down as programme controller of Classic FM after more than five years.
Bukht, better known as Michael Barry, BBC 2’s Food and Drink programmes chef, has relinquished his position on medical grounds. He has accepted a consultancy role with the GWR Group and will continue his work at the BBC and his Crafty Cook radio show.
Doctors have advised Bukht to significantly reduce his work load following a recent bout of illness. “This has been a very difficult decision after 5 wonderful years spent building Britain’s most successful national commercial radio station,” commented Bukht. “It would be unfair, however, on my family not to heed the doctor’s advice.”
He leaves the station on a high a high note. Classic FM has just been voted UK national radio station of the year at the annual Sony Awards The Sony Radio Awards 1997, and the most recent Rajar figures give the station its highest share of audience yet.
