Clear Channel Launches UK’s First Live Musical Billboard

Clear Channel has launched the UK’s first live musical billboard to raise awareness of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra’s drive to promote classical music to a younger audience.

The 64-sheet billboard is currently erected in Glasgow and features a violinist, a cellist and a horn player performing on a platform in front of a poster showing the entire orchestra in concert.

The special poster is part of a campaign to promote the new Royal Scottish National Orchestra season in Glasgow, which will include popular tunes including Star Wars in a bid to attract a younger audience.

Commenting on the initiative, Yvonne O’Brien, marketing director of Clear Channel billboards, said, “Outdoor is ideal for this sort of campaign – as it can’t be ignored and certainly can’t be switched off! This is a great example of how Outdoor brings the message right to the streets.”

Simon Crookall, chief executive of RSNO said the campaign is part of the group’s desire to break away from the traditional stuffy image of classical music. He commented: “People think the orchestra is all about top hat and tails. This is a good way of breaking down some barriers.”

Earlier this year outdoor advertising group Mega Profile merged with Forrest Outdoor Media to develop the market for large scale poster sites in Scotland (see Mega Profile And Forrest Outdoor Merge In Scotland).

The latest figures from the OAA show that outdoor advertising continued to perform strongly in the three months to June, with revenue increasing by 6.3% year on year to more than £184 million (see Outdoor Industry Sees Ad Revenue Rise In Second Quarter).
