CNN To Launch Internet News Service

CNN is due to announce today its plans for a personalised news service on the Internet. According to the FT CNN has joined Oracle, the database software company, to launch a text, graphics and video service which is tailored to individual users’ needs.
This is an extension of CNN’s previous plans which were to produce a personalised bulletin of news stories which would be e-mailed to users (subscribers see CNN To Send Personalised News).
Oracle has apparently developed advanced technology which will use linguistic analysis to identify the news items which its users are interested in. This would eliminate the problem of unwanted material which, in the past, has been included due to similarities in words and phrases.
It is believed that the service will prove attractive to advertisers because they will be able to tailor their messages to particular types of user.
