Commercial Radio Achieves 1.5m More Listeners
The latest Rajar results, for Q4 1994, show that commercial radio has increased its listeners by 316,000 over the last quarter, up 1.5m over the last year.
Virgin and Atlantic have continued to draw in more listeners; Atlantic’s audience has increased from 3,882,000 last year Q4 (8%) to 4,571,000 this quarter (10%). Virgin’s audience has increased from 3,035,000 last year (7%) to 3,993,000 (9%). Atlantic’s share of listening is up from 3.0% last year to 3.9%; Virgin’s share of listening has risen impressively from 2.2% last year to 3.9% this year. Classic maintained a 10% weekly reach, and increased its share of listening from 2.9% to 3.2%. All three national commercial stations increased listening hours on last year.
