Competition Commission Invites Evidence On RIM Bids
All three bids proposals for Regional Independent Media have now been passed to the Competition Commission. The Guardian Media Group joined Gannett and Johnston Press last week when it too asked the department for trade and industry for consent to make a bid for the regional newspaper group, the sixth largest in the UK (see Guardian Group Joins Bidding War For RIM).
The Commission will consider whether the acquisitions will operate against the public interest. Its decision on Gannett and Johnston Press will be made by 27 September, and on GMG by 6 October.
The Commission is now seeking evidence from all interested parties, to be submitted by 1 August.
