Complaints Bulletin
The Broadcasting Standards Council has published its November complaints bulletin.
A few cases involved in the report have particular interest. Channel 4’s, Cutting Edge programme, The Home, was found to be taking the programme beyond acceptable boundaries. The programme looked at the care given to elderly people in a nursing home. The BSC concluded that, some of the scenes depicting the plight of some of the residents, who were unlikely to have been able to give informed consent to their participation, were breaching broadcasting standards.
Over on ITV, the Saturday morning show, The Noise received criticism for the behaviour of its guests. One of the guests sniffed a pair of knickers. The BSC decided that the sequence was inappropriate in a show aimed at a young audience.
Television was not the only medium to be receive complaints in this latest BSC report. BBC Radio 1’s ,Chris Evans’ Breakfast Show was once again held-up by the BSC for broadcasting unacceptable ‘jokes’. In this instance the Breakfast Show team were found to be making light of the serious issue of violence against women. Further along the radio dial, BBC Radio 4’s science fiction thriller, Deep Station Emerald, was found to contain an unduly horrific scene involving a chain saw.
