Consent Given For Nottingham Post Takeover
Yesterday the Government gave conditional consent for the Daily Mail and General Trust to acquire T Bailey Forman, publisher of the Nottingham Post. This follows the MMC ruling in October that the deal was against the public interest.
In order to be able to go ahead with the acquisition DMGT has to agree to a number of conditions which will ensure editorial freedom; * the creation of a new editorial board for the Nottingham Post * to sell the Long Eaton Advertiser and Stapleford and Sandiacre News and not re-enter the weekly paid-for paper market in the East Midlands * to refrain from launching a regional edition of the Daily Mail in the area.
DMGT now has a 58% market share in the three counties of the East Midlands.
