Coronation Street The Winner With 8.2 Million Adult Viewers

Coronation Street Last night’s 7.30pm edition of Coronation Street was a real audience grabber for ITV1, with a peak audience of 8.2 million adults.

The show managed an average of 7.9 million adults (a 52% audience share) over the half hour and then came close to that figure again with its second helping of the evening at 8.30pm, which managed an average of 7.4 million adults (a 41% audience share).

Channel 4’s Big Brother, on at 9pm and therefore not up against ITV1’s Love Island, was beaten by Silent Witness, the forensic detective show on BBC One, which brought in a peak audience of six million adult viewers, compared with the reality show’s peak of 4.2 million.

Silent Witness, had an average of 5.8 million adult viewers (a 31% audience share) across its hour-long running time, while Big Brother managed an average of 3.8 million (a 20% audience share) during the same period.

The second largest audience of the evening was for Eastenders over on BBC One. The soap attracted a peak audience of 7.3 million adults and an average of 7.2 million (a 43% audience share).

Love Island on ITV1 continued to under perform last night (see Love Island Struggles To Seduce), despite the best efforts of the producers to spice things up, bringing in an average of 2.1 million adult viewers (a 12% audience share).
