Coronation Street Wins Monday Night Soap Battle

A Person Watching TV ITV1’s flagship soap opera Coronation Street attracted a peak audience of 10.2 million viewers to both of last night’s episodes, with viewers wondering which would blow up sooner, the bomb Chesney found in the garden or the menage a trois between Sonny, Sean and Michelle.

The first of the night’s episodes, on at 7.30pm, had a huge 49% share of the adult audience, whilst the second was not far behind with a 44.3% share.

Sandwiched between the two instalments at 8pm, Eastenders managed to bag a peak figure of 8.3 million adults, a 38.2% audience share, on a super night for soap aficionados.

The average adult audience over the shows half hour running time was not far behind, at 8.2 million, no doubt some of whom were shocked by the sight of Li flashing her racy underwear.

Following on from the second instalment of Coronation Street on ITV1 was Instinct, a new two-part serial-killer thriller featuring Anthony Flanagan as a cop on the trail of a brutal murderer.

The show had a peak audience of 6.6 million adults (a 30.2% audience share) just after it began at 9pm, although this gradually fell away and by the time it ended at 10.30pm this had dropped to 4.8 million.
