Corrie And Brookside Cleared By ITC

The behaviour of the Battersby family in Coronation Street has provoked almost 80 viewers to complain to the Independent Television Commission. In its August bulletin the ITC reports that viewers cited the incident when Les Battersby headbutted Curly Watts as an example of an unwelcome change of tone in the soap. The ITC however did not uphold these complaints, saying that viewers are left in no doubt that the family’s behaviour is considered unacceptable by the majority of residents in the Street.
…25 viewers complained about the portrayal of the gradual decline and death of Gladys, Mick Johnson’s mother-in-law, from cancer. Complainants were concerned that the medical care shown in the programme was inaccurate and that it promoted euthanasia. These complaints were not upheld.
