Corrie To Find Football Refuge On Tuesdays

Corrie To Find Football Refuge On Tuesdays

ITV1 has decided to move Coronation Street from Wednesday to Tuesday for the last eight weeks of football’s Champion’s League, in order to avoid scheduling the soap late in the evening after the Wednesday matches.

The programme will screen on Tuesdays at 8pm, immediately after BBC1’s EastEnders, from 19 February until 14 May. After that it will return to its original place in the schedule.

David Liddiment, ITV’s director of channels, explained: “This temporary move enable Coronation Street fans to watch their favourite programme at a familiar time.”

Last year, when ITV2 showed the first screening of the soap while football was on ITV1, it caused a boost to the digital channel’s viewing figures, even though the episode was shown on ITV1 later in the evening (see Football Drives Corrie Fans To ITV2).
