Court Ban On Naming Lottery Winner
Camelot last night was granted an injunction preventing Mirror Group Newspapers and News International from naming the winner of last Saturday’s lottery. The legal action was taken after the Mirror and Sun had almost certainly discovered the identity of the winner, who had opted for anonymity. Other details about the winner have been published however.
Shadow Home Secretary Jack Straw has said he will formally complain to the Press Complaints Commission about the role of the Press, but he has also called for an inquiry into the behaviour of Camelot. He has accused the company of “laying a trail” for the press which led to the door of the lottery winner.
