Cut Price Magazines At T&S Stores

T&S Stores, owners of cigarette discount outlets, Supercigs, will soon add to their retail portfolio by selling top magazines at reduced prices. The decision is an attempt by the group to expand into the south of England, where they believe customers are more interested in discounted magazines than cigarettes.
This will mean that titles like the Radio Times will be sold for 55p instead of 60p and More! for 90p as opposed to its regular retail price of £1.
Commenting on T&S’ decision, Jill Simmons, head of circulation at the Periodical Publishers Association told MediaTel this morning that there has not been any retail price maintenance on magazines for some time, and that current prices are purely recommended costs. She points out that the move by T&S is viewed as a retailer’s commercial decision. The group, meanwhile, will bear the cost cuts on the back of its retailer profit margin, meaning that increased sales of magazines will be of great importance to the venture.
