C&W Communications Takes Stake In Two Way TV
Cable & Wireless Communications (C&W) has bought a 50.1% stake in interactive TV services company, Two Way TV, for £13 million. Two Way TV’s technology will allow C&W’s digital television service to include interactive quiz and game shows that allow contestants to link-up with the programmes’ live broadcasts.
Two Way TV has been testing its services in the Central area since the beginning of last year (see Two Way TV Tunes In). The company is to use the money gained from the C&W deal to further invest in its digital services.
C&W’s digital TV service is planning to offer customers up to 200 channels of movies and programmes ‘on demand’, real-time games and television-based internet access (see CWC To Incorporate The Net With Its Digital Cable Service).
C&W chief executive, Graham Wallace, says: “Interactive services will form a key part of Cable & Wireless Communications’ digital TV services and our investment in, and distribution agreement with, Two Way TV, will add a unique and innovative brand of interactive entertainment to our offer.”
